AOD-9604
Dosage

Mix a vial of AOD-9604 with bacteriostatic water and this gives the concentration, the syringe units for your dose, and what every mark on the syringe holds. Dose is something you enter, not something this suggests.

What AOD-9604 is

AOD-9604 is a peptide of 16 amino acids. FDA's review describes it as a synthetic fragment of human growth hormone, amino acids 177 to 191, with one extra tyrosine added at the front. It gives the formula of the free base as C78H123N23O23S2 and its molecular weight as 1,815.09 g/mol.

Where it stands with the FDA

AOD-9604 isn't approved by the FDA, and the agency says it isn't a component of any FDA-approved drug. It was nominated for compounding, the nominations were withdrawn, and FDA reviewed it on its own initiative.

The review evaluated it for obesity and concluded that the criteria weigh against putting it on the list of substances pharmacies may compound with.

On December 4, 2024, FDA's Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee voted on it. Nobody voted in favor and 12 voted against.

The strength in the record

The nominations described three products: an injection under the skin at 1,200 mcg/mL, a 600 mcg capsule and a cream. Only the injection involves any vial math.

Add that much water to a 5 mg vial and it comes to that strength. Any other amount of water works too. It only changes how many units the same dose takes up.

Storing AOD-9604

FDA's review gives -20°C as the recommended storage temperature for the acetate form, and says it's reported to be stable for more than four years stored that way. That describes the dry substance, not a mixed vial.

There's no approved label for AOD-9604, so nothing official says how long a mixed vial keeps.

AOD-9604 dosage calculator questions

How do I turn a AOD-9604 dose into syringe units?

Divide the dose by the concentration to get millilitres, then multiply by 100. A 5 mg vial mixed with 2 mL is 2.5 mg/mL, so one unit on an insulin syringe holds 25 mcg and ten units hold 250 mcg.

How much bacteriostatic water goes in a 5 mg vial of AOD-9604?

There's no single right amount. The water only sets the concentration, and the amount of AOD-9604 in the vial stays the same. With 5 mg, 1 mL makes 5 mg/mL, 2 mL makes 2.5 mg/mL and 3 mL makes 1.667 mg/mL. Choose the amount that puts your dose somewhere between about 10 and 40 units, where it's easiest to read.

Is AOD-9604 approved by the FDA?

No. FDA says AOD-9604 isn't a component of any FDA-approved drug. Its advisory committee voted 0 to 12 against allowing it in compounded drugs on December 4, 2024.

Does this page tell me how much AOD-9604 to take?

No. There's no FDA-approved AOD-9604 product, so there's no approved dose to point to. The dose box starts empty for that reason, and the chart only converts.

Four divisions and a unit conversion, with your own numbers filled in below. If any of it looks wrong, it might be, so tell us what we got wrong.

Concentration after mixing mg per mL = vial mg ÷ water mL
What one syringe unit holds mg per unit = mg per mL ÷ 100
Volume to draw, and the units that's mL = dose mg ÷ mg per mL units = mL × 100
Doses in the vial, and how long it lasts doses = vial mg ÷ dose mg days = doses ÷ doses per day

Constants used

  • 1000 micrograms in a milligram
  • 100 units = 1 mL, the insulin syringe calibration, identical on 0.3, 0.5 and 1.0 mL barrels
  • 10 to 40 units is the band this page treats as comfortable to measure. That's a judgement, not a standard

Note what isn't here. This page has no dose recommendation, potency assumption or half-life. The vial and water boxes start empty, because this page can't know what your vial holds, and the vial sizes in its examples are only examples. The math also treats the water you add as the final volume. Powder takes up a little room of its own, which matters for vials holding a lot of it.
